How tight can chains be pulled, man?!?
Atrocious, I know. I'm sorry. I haven't updated this here thing in well over a week and according to my original schedule I should be in Fiji by now. But I'm not in Fiji, I'm in San Francisco still. Reason being, we were going to go to LA and stay for a night and then fly out of LAX. Instead we changed our flights, added 5 days to our stay in the bay and decided to drive down highway 1 as planned and head straight for the airport. Literally no one we talked to had anything great to say about the place. After remembering the wisdom of the Prophet Hicks ("The sooner it is flushed into the ocean due to a major earthquake, like turd city it is, the better.") we had no motivation to stay there. So we fucked it off.
Meanwhile I've been exploring everywhere from Fishermans Wharf to Haight Ashbury (where the hippie movement was born, but now there's a Starbucks and a Gap - so don't worry, it's long dead) to Chinatown and everything in between. We've made some new friends and even hooked up with old ones, Jamie of UCLAN fame put us on to our AMAZING hostel and we managed to hang out with him before he left. Small world indeed.
There were some absolutely mandatory touristy things we had to do. Gav and I cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge and discovered there's phones with a crisis counseling helpline - that's just silly. If you've walked all the way to the way to the middle of the bridge and climbed the railing then catch the sign that reads 'Emergency and crisis counseling' what are you going to think:
a) Oh go on then, I'll give them a ring - hey I've got the rest of my life to off myself!
or
b) The blackness, the blackness. Hold me in your deadly embrace, sweet lady Pacific..?
I digress. We have a tour booked around Alcatraz at half six at night tomorrow. That should be out of this world, I can't stop quoting Izzard and every time I see the thing I can't help but shout "Al-ca-traaaazz"! The same can be said every time I ride the cable cars. "P-p-p-prisoners coming". Which reminds me, Gav said he'd get a photo of me disguising myself as a wheel...
For the record my excuse for lack of updates is that the hostel internet kiosk things are dismal. Really dismal.
Just one more thing... Go and see 'Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy' as soon as you can. It was the only thing on that we all wanted to see when we went the flicks this week. Don't see trailers - just try and see it 'hypeless'. It is piss funny and make no mistake.
